Tŷ Gwyrddfai, the first decarbonisation hub in the UK, has hosted an event aimed at educating local school children about careers in green skills and construction jobs.
Held in partnership with Careers Wales, Busnes@LlandrilloMenai and a number of Tŷ Gwyrddfai sponsors, the event took place at Tŷ Gwyrddfai, Industrial Estate, Penygroes.
Organisers say the event provided a valuable experience for 70 pupils from Ysgol Dyffryn Ogwen, Ysgol Bodedern, Ysgol Dyffryn Nantlle, Ysgol Syr Huw Owen, and Ysgol Eifionydd, offering them the opportunity to engage in a variety of activities related to decarbonisation and green skills. Representatives from Careers Wales, Adra, and Busnes@LlandrilloMenai kicked off the day with an introduction, followed by interactive sessions hosted by Tŷ Gwyrddfai sponsors.
These sessions covered various aspects of green and construction jobs, allowing students to gain hands-on experience and meet potential employers in the sector. The sponsors were Aico, Altro, Huws Gray, Jewson, Nuaire and Webber.
Throughout the day, students participated in activities that highlighted the importance of sustainable careers, and the skills needed for green jobs. The event concluded with a closing session that left students inspired and informed about the opportunities available in the construction and environmental sectors.
John L Edwards, a business engagement adviser at Careers Wales, who supported the event, said:
“It was fantastic to see pupils learning more about green careers and roles in construction, while engaging directly with industry professionals.
“Careers and work-related experiences like this play a crucial role in helping young people to consider their future pathways. They equip students with the knowledge and confidence needed to make informed decisions about their next steps.”
This event is part of Tŷ Gwyrddfai’s ongoing commitment to working with the education sector and raising awareness about sustainable careers. By providing students with the knowledge and skills needed for green jobs, they aim to inspire the next generation of professionals in these fields.
