Lovell Delivers Health and Safety Sessions to Cardiff School Children

Leading partnerships developer Lovell recently delivered educational health and safety sessions to students at a school based near the upcoming development on the former Lansdowne Hospital site.

The sessions were delivered to 150 students from Millbank Primary School, split into three junior and two infant classes, and were delivered by Lovell Services and Adoptions Manager, Alun Webb and Meriel Gough, Lovell Community Development Coordinator.

During the sessions, the students learnt how to identify safety hazards in pictures of active sites, learnt the names of machinery in a fun guessing game and were taught all about the importance of PPE. The older students were also interested to learn about careers in construction, including salaries and the day-to-day operations.

Alun Webb was able to answer the students’ questions about construction and machinery, and they also got the chance to try on PPE boots and learn how they keep people working on sites safe.

Catherine Cooper at Millbank Primary School said:

“Lovell in the community has delivered fantastic learning opportunities to our pupils here in Caerau around careers and the world of work. The children had huge fun finding out about construction and industry.  This has supported our vision here at Millbank to nurture aspirational young people who are confident, capable and successful. Thanks to Meriel, Alun and the team at Lovell.”

Gemma Clissett, regional partnerships director at Lovell, said:

“We were thrilled to be able to offer these sessions to the students at Millbank Primary School, who were wonderfully engaged and interested in the activity.

“At Lovell, giving back to the communities we build in is one of our priorities and we were excited to be able to do that in a way that also introduces young people to the construction industry.”

Neil Taylor, Head of Development at Hafod, said:

“At Hafod, keeping our communities safe is at the heart of what we do, and we love seeing young people get involved and learning about health and safety. Lovell’s sessions with Millbank Primary School were a fantastic way to show children how to stay safe around construction, while sparking curiosity about future careers. It’s all part of our goal to create not just homes but vibrant, safe communities for everyone.”

Lovell is delivering the design and build scheme on the former Lansdowne Hospital site in Canton, Cardiff for its partner Hafod. The development will consist of 106 energy efficient homes, including 44 houses and 62 apartments split over three buildings. To find out more, visit https://www.hafod.org.uk/developments.
