Boosting Business Benefits Through Gender Equality

Chwarae Teg will bring the Swansea area business community together for its FairPlay Business Network next month.

The free event, which aims to support local businesses on gender equality issues, will be hosted by Coastal Housing Group, Swansea from 6.00pm-8.00pm on Thursday 6 June. There will be an opportunity to network and share best practice designed to empower businesses with the tools to deliver on gender equality.

At the event Chwarae Teg will be addressing possible concerns by employers when it comes to implementing flexible working and aiming to alleviate any apprehensions. Embracing modern working practices has benefits for everyone and can support business goals relating to talent management, becoming an employer of choice and increasing employee engagement.

Chwarae Teg works with Welsh businesses to take the lead on gender equality through its Agile Nation2 Business Programme, funded by the European Social Fund through Welsh Government.

A number of employers who have successfully embraced and seen the benefits of a more gender balanced and diverse workforce will present and take part in a panel Q&A. Those confirmed include, hosts Coastal Housing Group and DWJ Wealth Management.

Neath Coach Builders will also be formally presented with the company’s FairPlay Employer ‘Achieving’ Award, recognising its continued commitment to diversity, gender equality and modern working practices.

Christopher Yanez, Business Programme Lead, Chwarae Teg:

“The benefits of developing and maintaining a workforce which is gender balanced and diverse cannot be understated. Business which embed a culture of inclusion and equality at all levels can reap rewards in areas such as increased output and lower sickness rates. At Chwarae Teg we work closely with businesses, offering invaluable advice and guidance to achieve real results. I hope local businesses will join us at this FairPlay Business Network to share their experiences and learn from others who have benefited in the past.”

Danni Watts-Jones, Managing Director of DWJ Wealth Management, said:

“Flexible working has enabled us as a firm to have the option of recruiting new staff on a job share basis and thus allowing them a flexible place to work to suit both their family commitments and our business needs. By implementing a more flexible working environment it also allowed us to retain staff who may well have left due to their home life commitments. It has improved work life balance of staff and they are now working more effectively. Staff have also said they feel more valued as a result. They don’t feel guilty about requesting time off. I am so pleased Chwarae Teg were at hand to guide us through the process and ensure that the company remained compliant always. I have no hesitation in recommending their services.”
